A SEASON RETROSPECTIVE
HONOR AND SACRIFICE

FROM THE MSBRL PRESIDENT
As a Vietnam veteran, I hope I have earned the qualifications necessary to speak on honor and sacrifice.  As we enter the final weekend of a great season, I ask you all to reflect.  As a teacher at Somerville High School, I have seen many of my former students enlist in the military.  As a result, I have attended two funerals and have met and visited others who have suffered the physical and or emotional scars of being in combat.  They believe, (as I do), in the honor of their country and are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.  This season, instead of Iraq or Afghanistan, we sent kids of the same age to Stamford and Newark. The biggest fear for our kids was to win the next game, not to be alive the next day. So, opposed to a trip to the Middle East with a M-16, instead, we opted for Louisville Sluggers and, thankfully, as the Middlesex Senior Babe Ruth League, we could be a part in affording these kids such a unique and special opportunity in a different type of conflict..."THE WORLD SERIES". However, "with all honor, comes sacrifice".
I asked that you all bear with me and to sacrifice for the "good of the league". So, for all of you who accepted the sacrifice to make this season a success, I thank you.  To those who are dissatisfied....

"CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL ON A GREAT SEASON"

WORLD SERIES MESSAGE FROM THE MSBRL PRESIDENT
"All good things must come to an end, but greatness will endure".

The phenomenal run of our ALL STARS came to a disappointing conclusion on Tuesday with a heartbreaking 4-3 loss.  I, only say "disappointing" because that is what they felt. This was the character of this team....to believe that all is possible, and anything less is unacceptable.  Well to this great group of players, coaches and parents, there is NO DISAPPOINTMENT, BUT RATHER PRIDE AND CELEBRATION ON YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENT.  With a 3-2 record, you will be one, of the possibly four, "best teams in the country".  You have exceeded all of our dreams and expectations and hope you are as proud of yourselves as I and we are of you.  We welcome you back home with our heartfelt "congratulations" and sincere appreciation and gratitude for what you achieved.  Your amazing season will forever live in our hearts and minds and we thank you.

-Tom Clews, THE PROUDEST PRESIDENT, MSBRL

NEW ENGLAND REGIONAL CHAMPIONS

Message from the MSBRL President

The "tenacious ten", as they will go down in history, aided by some "guest appearances" achieved what everyone, except for themselves and their loyal supporters, thought to be the impossible. The "refuse to lose" bunch endured and overcame any and all adversities and, in dramatic fashion, won two doubleheaders in two days culminating in a "walk off" home run in the final game in extra innings. To these "gutsy and courageous kids", the "great coaches" and an "unbelievably supportive and cooperative" group of parents who helped make this possible, I offer my heartfelt congratulations on behalf of myself and the League. I have umpired at the highest levels of baseball and been involved in, literally, hundreds of tournaments, and this will go down as the greatest feat in tournament history in my life.  This is one of the proudest days in my long baseball career and I thank each and every one of you.  My greatest regret is that I wasn't there to share this great accomplishment with all of you. "God love you all...you are the best."

-Tom Clews, President, MSBRL
